June 2018
The 2018 softball season is close to wrapping up for the season. This year McLeod Community League hosted approximately 70 players on 8 teams, including 1 nerf team (U4), 2 T-ball teams (U6), 2 Coach Pitch Teams (U8), and 1 team in each of the U10, U12, and U16 categories.
Our teams have all represented McLeod well and our older teams will be competing in the city finals at the end of June. We are also very excited to see how our U12 and U16 teams fare at the provincial championships in early July.
McLeod Community League is very appreciative of all the volunteers that contribute to our softball program. Thank you to all the players, parents, coaches and umpires for a great 2018 season. We hope to see all of our players return next year as well as welcome some new faces to the fold. We wish all our softball players well with their fall and winter sports and can't wait to see them back on the diamond in April.
May 2018
McLeod Community League hosted the first annual Gord Matlock T-ball and coach pitch tournament on May 12. Eight teams enjoyed beautiful sunny skies and a wonderful day of softball. High Park, Bannerman, Homesteader, and McLeod all had teams participate in this event.
Each team played two games at diamonds near McLeod hall, and enjoyed some gigantic bouncy castles between games and after the tournament. The tournament was on the same day as McLeod's movie night and some players choose to take in Black Panther after the games were completed.
The tournament is named after Gord Matlock, who was the softball director for McLeod Community League for 25 years. Gord made tremendous contributions to the game of softball and is the primary reason that so many kids in North East Edmonton have an opportunity to play this great game. Gord's daughter Cassie is a very accomplished softball player and has played for Team Canada in the past and is currently playing college softball in Kentucky.
Thank you to all the players, coaches and volunteers from the McLeod u16 softball team for participating in this great day of softball.
